Outside the academies, Dubai’s chess runs on groups that meet in public places. Dubai Social Chess Club fills a coffee shop downtown on Wednesday evenings, Chess Sunday takes over a food hall in DIFC on Sunday afternoons, and E5 - Chess Club Dubai moves between cafés in The Greens and Jumeirah Lakes Towers. The Capablanca Club holds evenings by invitation, booked through a ticketing page.
A second kind of group is visible only through the tournament server: The Chess Hub, Kajoooyax and FCPL run blitz and rapid events in malls such as Reef Mall in Deira and BurJuman, and in Sharjah the Sahara Centre hosts the Expat Chess Club and junior events. The UAE Chess Federation, which keeps the national calendar, and a training institute that hosts events are listed here as well.
